What is TMJ?
TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) disorders refer to conditions affecting the jaw joint and muscles, which control movement. These conditions can lead to pain, stiffness, and difficulty in jaw movement, affecting daily activities like chewing, speaking, and even smiling. TMJ issues often result from stress, injury, teeth grinding (bruxism), or misalignment.
Symptoms of TMJ Disorders
- Jaw pain or tenderness, especially when chewing or opening the mouth wide
- Clicking or popping sounds when moving the jaw
- Difficulty or pain while chewing or speaking
- Ear pain or a feeling of fullness in the ears
- Headaches or facial pain
- Locking of the jaw (unable to open or close fully)
